Melocactus Azureus gotten the name of Turks Cap Cactus because the wool-covered like sphere at the top of the plant resembles the traditional Turkish fez hat popular during the Ottoman rule.

As the Turks Cap Cactus fully mature, it will develop wool and bristle-covered spheres at the top of the plant known as cephalium. When the cactus bloom, they will produce small pink-coloured flowers on the cap.
